In the United States we are facing an economic climate that is hurting many people. There are many ideas floating around as to how to build and sustain new jobs, some of which have merit, some that do not. One of the things that are certain is that the United States used to be more productive than it is now, and that there used to be more of a proud standard in products made in the USA.
One of the issues facing the current job market in the United States is that market demands are not being made. For example, there is much demand for food, particularly good food. By good I mean food that is produced locally and in the United States. When these products are supported by consumers, they create demand for them. Where there is demand there is almost always a business of some sort built to meet that demand. This needs to be the case for the United States, and the United States can strongly benefit from grocery stores to have a Made in the USA sign in one of their aisles.
There are many concerned citizens in the United States that realize one of the ways to bolster the local and even national economy is through buying local whenever possible. Many consumers feel that the best way to give the economy in the United States a boost is to endeavor to solely buy USA made products whenever possible. For the person who really feels strongly about this, they may decide to only use products made in the USA, and as such accept that there may end up being items they want but are only made by the Chinese.
A major part of helping build a solid economic system is not to buy things from overseas, but to purchase as much here at home as possible. Again, market forces are such that when the consumer makes demands, then it suits businesses both online and brick and mortar to endeavor to meet those demands
Many think that retail stores should have a “Made in USA” section. This is actually a great way to get consumers excited by the prospect of being able to get a bunch of products that have only been made in the USA. It gives shoppers a way to buy their groceries that is actually good for their country, state and county’s economic well being. In other words, having an aisle dedicated to Made in the USA products is a very smart and efficient way to cleverly advertise products, while at the same time acting as a force of activism and convincing people how much a local economy can only survive with the support of the people.
A study in 2007 showed that a great many shoppers look for labels saying “made in the USA.” In fact, they make a special effort in trying to find products only made in the USA. Many people actually buy Made in the USA products due to the fear of what kind of contamination could be coming from a place like China as the products come over the ocean. Customer confidence is a big deal, and if the customers do have the confidence in products coming from China, then this creates demand for the grocery stores to try and meet.
For many consumers, trying to seek out Made in the USA products is actually quite difficult, especially in retail stores such as Target and CostCo. This is why it is such a good idea for grocery stores to start making aisles that only carry native products. We feel th is would be perfect for Target or even Wal-Mart to give back more than they could to any charity to a community.
In short, having a section made for local food products is a big step in the right direction for grocery stores. This gives the customers a sense of direction as they try and find the products made in the USA that they need. It also makes shopping at the grocery store more convenient, thereby increasing the store’s own profits as well.
